Two years ago renowned performer and magician David Copperfield was dragged through the tabloids after allegations of sexual assault on a young aspiring model surfaced. The David Copperfield assault allegations were again brought to the forefront of the media’s attention when the same young woman filed a lawsuit against the performer the same day the statute of limitations deadline was reached for the original claims.

The David Copperfield lawsuit filed by the aspiring model is seeking unspecified damages for the alleged assault resulting emotional trauma, false misrepresentation and false imprisonment according to the woman’s claims.

This has prompted a fierce response from Copperfield who issued a statement on August nineteen entitled ‘Copperfield Set the Record Straight’. In his statement Copperfield says that the woman making the allegations has a ‘history of lying’ claiming to have many witnesses to back up. He further claims that her allegations of being alone with him on the island are ‘preposterous’ given that there were ‘more than twenty women and men on the island during her visit’.

Copperfield said that he felt ‘forced’ to make a public statement addressing the allegations, even though he had hoped to avoid doing so, but the filing of the lawsuit left him with no choice. He further claims that these allegations are hurting the real victims of assault by making a mockery of them as this lawsuit is clearly an ‘extortion for money, plain and simple’.

Criminal charges have yet to be laid as the US Attorney’s office is still deliberating whether they are necessary.
